NRVIA runs two levels. An inspector can be certified at the fundamental level, which covers roofs, seams, moisture meters, appliances and the written report. The next level adds more training and hands-on hours. Ask which level your inspector holds and how many inspections they have done this year. A report should show photos of every issue, moisture readings in numbers, and a clear pass or fail on each system. If someone hands you a checklist with no photos, that is not a real report.
Of the 227 certified inspectors listed, 134 offer mobile service. That matters when the rig is sitting on a dealer lot an hour away or at a private seller's house. A mobile inspector brings the moisture meter and the tools to the coach. You do not have to move the RV before the sale. It also means the seller cannot easily swap parts or hide a problem while the coach is in transit. Book the inspection before you put down a nonrefundable deposit, or make the deposit contingent on the report.
114 of the inspectors here list pre-purchase as a specialty. That is the inspection you want. Roof and moisture checks top the list for a reason: water damage is expensive and often hidden behind ceiling panels and in the walls. Fluid analysis on the engine and generator tells you about wear you cannot see. A generator that runs for ten minutes in the seller's driveway may quit after an hour under load. I walked away from a diesel pusher because the report showed soft floor near the shower and a generator that would not carry the air conditioner. That inspection cost less than the first repair would have.
We list 227 NRVIA-certified inspectors in the United States. Their average rating is 4.7. Some also specialize in mobile service and pre-purchase inspections, so you can filter by what you need.
134 of the 227 offer mobile service. That means they come to the seller's location. Verify the travel radius when you call, since mobile does not always mean unlimited distance.
Photos of every defect, moisture readings in numbers, and a pass or fail for each major system. Roof, seams, chassis, generator, appliances and fluids should all appear. Ask for a sample report before booking so you know what you will get.
No. Hire your own certified inspector, someone with no relationship to the seller or dealer. That independence is the whole point. A report you paid for is a report you can trust.
